Access to defibrillators can be critical in an emergency, and the Huon Valley is home to numerous publicly accessible AEDs (Automated External Defibrillators). These are located at community centres, sports clubs, schools, and other key locations throughout the local government area.

You can view a complete map of AED locations across Tasmania on LISTmap, published by the Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment. This map provides up-to-date details on all registered AEDs, helping you find the nearest defibrillator in an emergency.

Using a Defibrillator in an Emergency

  1. Call triple zero (000): Immediately call 000 so an ambulance can be dispatched. The call-taker will provide CPR instructions and guidance on using the AED if needed.
  2. Turn on the AED: No training is required to use an AED. Simply turn on the device, and it will guide you through each step with clear voice instructions.
  3. Follow the prompts: The AED will provide detailed instructions on what to do next. You cannot harm the person by using an AED, as it only delivers a shock when necessary.
  4. Seek assistance if available: If others are present, ask for help with the AED and CPR until emergency services arrive.

Important Information

While AEDs in council-managed facilities are maintained and regularly inspected, the Council is not responsible for the condition or availability of AEDs installed by third parties. Each device’s owner is responsible for its upkeep and accessibility.
