The Huon Valley Council 2018 State Election Strategy identified key areas in which the Council can work together with the State Government to achieve key priorities for the prosperity and amenity of the Huon Valley Region.
In 2018, Huon Valley Council were successful in securing a $750,000 State election commitment for the rehabilitation and development of Franklin Foreshore.
The purpose of the project is to:
- Create pedestrian linkages between the existing walking trails to the north and south of the marina area
- Construct two pontoons
- Beautification of the Marina area
Status; Work has now commenced on the walking track component of the project. Please refer to the October 2022 update below.
The walking track is now complete.
Plans for the project have been submitted to an Engineer to be certified.
Consultation has been completed and Council has appointed ERA Planning and Environment Consultants to navigate and obtain the necessary Crown Land approvals.
Following community engagement on the Draft Franklin Foreshore Rehabilitation and Development Plan, the Community Engagement Report and the revised Franklin Foreshore Rehabilitation and Development Plan was presented to Council at the Ordinary Council meeting on 27 May 2020. Council endorsed the revised Franklin Foreshore Rehabilitation and Development Plan for implementation subject to a Deed of Variation from the Grant Funding Body.
Subject to final approval from the Grant Funding Body the Council will undertake further engagement with the key stakeholders on the final designs and implementation of the following;
- Public Toilet;
- Landscaping; and
- Interpretive History Signage
