Councillors participated in this year’s Children’s Book Week by visiting various schools around the Huon Valley, taking part in their parades.

Mayor Sally Doyle attended Dover District School, St James Catholic College, Sacred Heart and Franklin Primary Schools and said it was a wonderful opportunity to engage with local schools.

“Following our commitment to the national campaign ‘Read Aloud to Your Child Every Day’, I was eager to visit our local schools during this year’s book week and encourage students about the importance of reading and learning,” said Mayor Doyle.

Other local schools visited by Councillors included Geeveston, Glen Huon, Huonville and Cygnet Primary Schools.

Each school was gifted a voucher to spend on a new book for their room.

“One of my absolute highlights was the two young students dressed up as Council recycling bins. Like me, they are passionate about waste and recycling in the Huon Valley and were eager to help educate their peers on the importance of recycling.”
