The Huon Valley community is set to benefit from a new Huonville Child and Family Learning Centre (CFLC), with construction expected to begin in 2026 as part of the Tasmanian Government’s election commitments.

Mayor Sally Doyle welcomed the announcement, saying “We are genuinely excited about the potential for this new centre to help address the drastic shortage of childcare services in our community”.

The Huon Valley Council, which operates four childcare services in the region, understands how important early education and childcare availability are for local families. Demand for Council’s early education services continues to grow with up to 250 childcare sessions or 80 children on our waiting list.

With more families choosing to call Huon Valley home, access to childcare services is becoming an even greater priority.

Consultation on the Huonville CFLC has now begun, and the Tasmanian Government is seeking feedback from the community.

“Your voice matters,” Mayor Doyle emphasised. “We strongly encourage families to take part in the consultation, as together, we can shape a better future for our children.”
