For your say on waste services, the Great Wheelie Bin Survey will be launched this Saturday at the Huon Show.
You can have your say on potential extensions to kerbside collection routes and the introduction of green bins for Food Organics and Garden Organics (FOGO).
“This survey is an excellent opportunity for the whole community to help shape waste services, including composting in our area,” said Mayor Sally Doyle. “Composting will play a crucial role in managing our waste into the future. It helps communities avoid rising landfill costs, reduces emissions, and generates jobs and healthy soil.”
The 10-minute survey will run for seven weeks and can be completed:
- Online via our Have Your Say page (www.huonvalley.tas.gov.au/have-your-say/)
- In hard copy at Council’s customer service desk at 40 Main Road, Huonville and at our Huon Valley Childcare and Medical Centres
- By scanning the QR code on posters around the Huon Valley
Ratepayers can also expect to receive information flyers in their mailboxes during the first week of December.
Extensions to the kerbside collection route will be considered. Please note that once a road is added to the route, there is no opt-out option. It’s important to share your preference, even if you plan to continue using our waste transfer stations.
FOGO bins for compostable waste have proven successful in other regions. Council is exploring various options for collection and processing of organic waste. A recent audit of general waste bins in the Huon Valley showed that over 56% of our landfill waste could be composted through FOGO.
Be sure to have your say and help shape the waste services in your area.
