Friends gathered at the Huon Valley Hub for a last supper on Tuesday 21st September. Chef Roy Leurs and his students from the Huon Valley Trade Training Centre prepared and served some Mediterranean cuisine for Council’s last ‘Eating with Friends’ event for 2021.
The event has provided an opportunity for local people to get together, catch up and meet new friends, while learning how to make delicious new dishes. The feedback has been very positive:
“Tasty food, enjoyed the afternoon meeting people, very good for the mind, body and soul.”
“This is the only way some of us get out.”
“Food was great – the concept was too – the combination of trainees and food and community building.”
Many conversations have been shared around the dinner table this past year. This was the fourth Eating with Friends event, done in partnership with the Trade Training Centre. According to those who have attended regularly, the students have gained a lot of confidence from the program. It has been a wonderful way for older residents to interact with the younger people who are all so eager to learn and share their knowledge in a professional kind of setting.
The event was combined with the Live Well Live Long program. Ngaire Hobbins – specialist dietitian/nutritionist in ageing and brain health attended the banquet and provided details to participants on the importance of eating brain food.
Thank you everyone for coming along and bringing their enthusiasm and positivity.
