Huon Valley Council has finalised plans for the future management of Cygnet Town Hall, as current lease arrangements approach their March 2025 expiry date. This timing has presented Council with an opportunity to review and enhance how this important community asset is utilised.

Following comprehensive community engagement throughout 2023 and 2024, the community expressed a strong desire for more flexible, bookable community spaces. This feedback was carefully considered during the recent assessment of Expression of Interest submissions for the front and rear office space, with the final decisions endorsed at the Ordinary Council Meeting on 26 February 2025.

Currently, the Town Hall comprises three leased areas alongside the main hall space for exclusive use by individual tenants. From July 2025, the two front office spaces will be converted to bookable venues and managed through SpacetoCo, Council’s online facility booking platform. This change will provide more opportunities for community groups and residents to share and utilise these areas for various activities and events.

“These updates will help ensure the Cygnet Town Hall continues to serve our community’s evolving needs,” said Mayor Sally Doyle. “We’re working to make these spaces more accessible while maintaining the building’s valued place in our community.”

To ensure a smooth transition, Council will:

  • Extend current lease arrangements for all existing tenants until 30 June 2025
  • Work with current hall and supper room users to facilitate their bookings to SpaceToCo
  • Support community groups and individuals who submitted Expressions of Interest to secure bookings before the system goes live

Council will consider future budget allocations to renovate the front spaces to better serve community requirements. The main hall will continue to be available for bookings as usual.
