The Huon Valley Council is partnering with the University of Tasmania (UTAS) to deliver an exciting training program that will upskill Huon Valley community members to give parents and carers information about education and job/career options for their children.
“We are seeking volunteers who are passionate about education and that want to help people find a job/career by leading the delivery of the UTAS Parents Matter program in the Huon Valley,” said Huon Valley Council Mayor Bec Enders. “Those selected will receive fully subsidised training [three VET units of competency] to plan and run community-based adult learning groups with support from Council’s project team.”

“Most children and young people begin to make choices about their education and job/career when they are in junior secondary school, or even earlier for some,” said Cr Enders. “Parents, carers and other role models in our community play an important part in supporting, giving advice and connecting young people with opportunities. As adults we have a significant impact on our young ones’ educational goals and expectations.
“This is a great opportunity for parents, teacher aids, youth workers or any community member who has a keen interest to make a difference in our community.”
