Community members are invited to attend the first meeting of the Reconciliation Local Action Group, taking place on Thursday 3 October 2024 from 3:30pm to 5pm at the Huon Valley Hub, supported by Huon Valley Council.
“Reconciliation is a journey, and while many people have worked hard for meaningful change, there is still more work to be done,” said Mayor Sally Doyle. The Mayor also said, “A united Huon Valley not only creates a more harmonious society, but also allows us to take pride in our exceptionally long history and rich and diverse cultures.”
This local group aims to build the foundations of trust and respect between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal Tasmanians, working towards greater unity. It is an opportunity for all Australians to understand and value Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and non-Indigenous cultures’ rights and experiences. Discussions will include the establishment of a Local Action Group for Reconciliation and the frequency and location of future meetings.
