UPDATED 23 /09/24 @ 3.35pm
Council is aware that multiple roads in the municipal area are currently affected by trees and powerlines down due to the strong winds we are experiencing.
The following roads are confirmed closed due to powerlines being down:
- Esperance Coast Road closed from corner of Kent Beach Road and Esperance Road through to Big Roaring Beach Road
- Channel Highway between Nicholls Rivulet Road and Woodbridge Hill Road
- Sandhill Road (near 115 Sandhill Road)
- Randalls Bay Road (near 375 Randalls Bay Road)
- Wylies Road, Cygnet – NOW OPEN 23/9 @ 4pm
It is likely these roads will be closed over night until TasNetworks can get to them tomorrow.
Residents in these affected areas are encouraged to make arrangements to stay with family and friends if they cannot access their homes at this time.
If you come across a fallen powerline, always assume it’s live. Stay more than three metres away and report it to TasNetworks immediately.
Please report hazards that presents a real or potential risk to road-users to:
- TasNetworks – power outages/lines down – call 132 004
- State Growth – trees down on highways – call 1300 139 933
- Council – trees down on municipal roads – call 6264 0300
Due to the damage caused by this weather event, Council’s priority is to keep roads open and ensure the safety of our community and workforce. Crews may not remove all the roadside debris when first attending the scene and will undertake further clean-up works after the event.
Rubbish bins: We are aware a large number of bins have blown over throughout the collection area today. Our contractor has done their best to collect what they can, but they cannot empty all the bins that have blown over due to time restrictions and safety concerns. If your bin has not been emptied today, please contact Council to arrange another collection if needed.
