Today marks an exciting milestone for the Huon Valley community with the official opening of the brand-new Huon Link Road.
After final asphalting works are completed over the morning, this vital new road will connect the Huon Highway with the Channel Highway, creating a smoother and safer route.
The opening of the Huon Link Road is set to reduce congestion through the heart of Huonville by diverting Cygnet-bound traffic from Main Street. This will not only help ease traffic flow but also improve safety for pedestrians and motorists in the town centre.
A huge shout-out to the incredible Huon Valley community for your years of advocacy and support for this project. Huon Valley Council first proposed this new link road more than 15 years ago and our careful work behind the scenes, including detailed research, planning and extensive lobbying, has paid off.
Delivered by the Tasmanian Government with additional funding from the Australian Government, this road is a fantastic example of what can be achieved when local communities, Council, and state and federal governments work together to create positive, lasting change!
While the road is now open to traffic, crews will continue to work on finishing touches, such as installing guardrails, line markings, and signage. Everything is expected to be fully completed by early May 2025.
This is an exciting development for the region, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact the Huon Link Road will have on daily commutes, travel times, and safety for everyone in the Huon Valley. Here’s to smoother, safer journeys ahead!
