Significant progress is being made with the renovation works at the Port Huon Sports and Aquatic Centre. Council acknowledges the importance of the centre to the community and is working to reopen the pool area as soon as possible. The date of the reopening will be provided as soon as work progresses.
“We’re excited about the many improvements being made to this important community asset,” said Huon Valley Mayor Sally Doyle. “These renovations will ensure the centre continues to meet the needs of our community for years to come. We’re also exploring options to further improve the visual amenities and functionality of both the building and car park.”
“I would like to thank the community for their patience during this extended renovation period. I am confident these improvements will greatly enhance the centre’s ability to serve our community’s recreational and fitness needs.”
The upgrades, which are being carried out in stages, include:
- Installation of a new Heating, Ventilation, and Cooling (HVAC) system, currently underway and expected to be completed by late November.
- Replacement of a section of the roof, which has already been completed.
- Installation of double-glazed windows and a new external door, scheduled for late October.
- A new all-access hoist, to be installed in late October, improving accessibility for all users.
- Installation of a new backwash tank later this year, enhancing the pool’s filtration system.
Looking ahead, Council has also commenced design works for upgrading the changerooms. These improvements, scheduled for the next financial year, will focus on enhancing accessibility and functionality, including bringing the all-access changeroom up to DDA compliance standards.
