Recycling Services

Sort and save.

Sorting out recyclable materials from your general waste will save you time when you arrive at the transfer station and reduce your tip fees. See below for a list of our recycling and resource recovery services on offer.

Cardboard

Most cardboard, including archive boxes, food boxes and packing boxes. No wet, greasy, or waxed carboard (you can often identify waxed cardboard, as it will not tear easily).

Aluminium

Foil, drink cans and empty aerosol cans. Remember to scrunch foil into a loose ball so it can be recycled at the processing facility.

Glass

Glass bottles and jars of any colour. No drinkware, glass dishes, or broken glass.

Comingled Recycling – Paper, Plastic, and Steel Cans
  • Paper
All types of paper including magazines, pamphlets, note pads, envelopes and office paper. Remove soft plastic from newspapers and magazines before placing into your recycle bin.
  • Plastic
Rigid plastic bottles and domestic containers. Remove lids and ensure all containers are empty and roughly rinsed clean. No soft (scrunchable) plastics.
  • Steel Cans
Food containers and empty aerosol cans. Ensure steel containers are empty and place sharp lids inside for safety.
Green Waste

Clean green waste which is free from contaminants can be processed and recycled as mulch. Keep organic garden waste separate to reduce landfill and your tip fees. Accepted materials include grass clippings, prunings, leaves, plants, and branches less than 30cm wide. Weeds are accepted so long as they are not declared environmental weeds. Check the Department of Natural Resources and Environment’s website for a current list of declared weeds in Tasmania.

Scrap Metal

Scrap metal must be kept separate from your general waste. This includes steel, aluminum, and copper. We accept car bodies and small quantities of scrap metal, such as bent cutlery copper wire, can also be recycled.

Tyres

Tyres must be recycled and are banned from being landfilled. Tyres are charged individually based on type. Please ensure tyres are free from excessive mud. We only accept up to super single truck size.

Oil

For environmental reasons, oil should be kept out of general waste. Motor oil can be recycled at special drop off units at each waste transfer station. Oil recycling is free up to 10L and charged at $1.10 per litre over 10L.

Batteries

Batteries must be disposed of separately for safety reasons. Look for designated drop off points for car and household batteries.

E-Waste (Southbridge Only)

Recycle select e-waste types at Southbridge (Huonville) waste transfer station.

Accepted items: Computers, phones, tablets, cables, computer parts, power tools
Not accepted: Screens, televisions, keyboards, mice, printers, other household appliances

Blister Packs

Empty medicinal blister packs can be recycled via special collection bins at any waste transfer station.
